IC 1274 and Friends

IC 1274 is an emis­sion neb­ula in the con­stel­la­tion Sagit­tari­us, loc­ated at the top left of the image. The object was dis­covered in 1892 by Edward Emer­son Barn­ard. NGC 6559 can be found at the bot­tom left. Just to the right of it is the plan­et­ary neb­ula PN G006.7–02.2, dis­covered by Minkovski 1946.

The data were acquired in Nam­i­bia at the Old Garden Obser­vat­ory in col­lab­or­a­tion with Markus Blauen­stein­er and Oliv­er Schneider. The image is a clas­sic LRGB com­pos­ite, with north at the top.

About Me

Hello, my name is Martin Rusterholz. I’m a Swiss amateur astrophotographer living near Zurich, the biggest town in Switzerland. My interest in astronomy started when I was 16. At that time, I built my first Newtonian telescope and mount. I studied physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) which was the only study including at least some aspects of astronomy and astrophysics. “Looking at the nights sky is an experience touching everybody deeply inside, something common to all human beings independent to the language spoken by the individuals”. Deep-sky astrophotography is my passion.
